A conversation between Massimo Gaudioso and Mads Sohl Jessen
Followed by a screening of Tale of Tales – The Flea
November 12, 6 pm – Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Gjørlingsvej 11, 2900 Hellerup
The Italian Cultural Institute of Copenhagen hosts an event – on the occasion of the 2500th anniversary of the founding of the city of Naples – dedicated to two great writers – Giambattista Basile and Hans Christian Andersen – and traces the connection between the two authors, demonstrating how Basile’s original vision found its modern fulfillment in Andersen’s work.
Basile, with his Lo Cunto de li Cunti, is considered the pioneer of the literary fairy tale genre. In early 17th-century Naples, he collected and transcribed a collection of folktales destined to influence the global fairytale tradition. Two centuries later, Andersen gave the genre the form in which it has come down to us, definitively codifying its style and sensibility.
The bond between Andersen and Naples goes beyond literature, in fact, the Danish writer visited the city three times during his life and was so captivated by it that he wrote in his diaries: “When I die, I shall return to Naples to haunt it as a ghost.”
Taking part in the event will be Massimo Gaudioso, one of the most awarded italian screenwriters and author of Tale of Tales (2015), a fundamental movie based on Giambattista Basile’s Lo Canto de li Cunti, and prof. Mads Sohl Jessen, from the H.C. Andersen Centre of Southern Denmark University. Alongside them will be the curators of the Partenopedia project, Roberto di Stasio Lepre and Amalia Vergari.
The event wille be held in English.
Entry is free but registration is required HERE
PARTENOPEDIA – On the occasion of the 2500th anniversary of the founding of Naples, the Neapolis 2500 Committee celebrates the city with a wide-ranging programme of cultural initiatives. Kisgood Media takes part in this journey with the creation of Partenopedia – Tales of Naples, a podcast dedicated to Neapolitan history and identity, and of Partenopedia 2500, a digital encyclopedia that gathers content (podcasts, videos, photographs, in-depth articles and books) dedicated to the city of Naples. Within this path is a series of four international events that Kisgood
Media organises in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and four Italian Cultural Institutes (London, Brussels, Copenhagen and Istanbul).
The Italian Cultural Institute of Copenhagen hosts one of four international events based on the Partenopedia project (the other ones taking place at the IICs in London, Brussels and Istanbul) which is dedicated to the city of Naples on the 2500th anniversary of its foundation, the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Kisgood Media.
