A TALK SERIES PRESENTED BY THE ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF CULTURE
Foredrag ved Luca Guardabassi (Professor in Antimicrobial Resistance and Antibiosis, Department of Veterinary Disease Biology – University of Copenhagen) A worldwide increase in reporting of antibiotic resistant bacteria has been observed in animals over the last decade. This situation is currently regarded as a human health hazard since these bacteria can be transmitted to humans via direct contact to animals or consumption of contaminated food. In response, the pressure against use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine is rising and alternative strategies for control of bacterial infection are urgently needed. By this lecture, prof. Guardabassi will guide you through the state-of-the art of this topic with focus on the following questions: what is the relative contribution by animals to antibiotic resistance problems in human medicine and how should this potential human health hazard be handled in the future?
